Design Spotlight: Coastal California ‘Soft Modern’
Known as the entertainment capital of California, Orange County is home to fashion icons, media industry leaders, and notable outdoor sports professionals. It’s no surprise that this bustling economy attracts luxury home buyers, especially with its mild Mediterranean climate and lush coastal real estate.
Against this backdrop, the Xander Noori design team was commissioned to create a spa-like interior for a client’s 10,000sf custom home. As the firm’s principals Xander Noori and Keon Khajavi-Noori explain, “Early on our client said they want to live in a resort-like environment, so, we sought to create a luxurious experience where they can simply settle in and relax.”
While the exterior boasts of Northern Italian provincial classicism, the interiors exude the sophisticated beauty of soft modernity. Decorative Italian wrought-iron doors welcome you into a bright and spacious entry, creating a sanctuary-like feel even before crossing the threshold.
Bright natural light and verdant views of surrounding landscape clearly influenced the design duo’s styling. Noori explains, “We cultivated spaces within the home that naturally flowed right outside through expansive floor-to-ceiling glass doors, capitalizing on our sunny Southern California coastal weather.” Nodding to this immersive indoor-outdoor experience, the team integrated several Hammerton Studio Chandeliers in handcrafted crystal glass.
In the spacious living and dining areas, the Blossom Radial Ring Chandelier and Blossom Starburst Chandelier layer Noori’s modern design with undulant blooms of artisan blown crystal glass, punctuating key spaces with a soft, relaxed, and entirely unique aesthetic.
Noori used authentic and enduring design elements, especially when it came to finish materials and color. The team curated a fully neutral palette with subtle accents of pale coastal blue. Art and accents create contrast while the overall feel is soft-spoken, blending opulent lighting with luxurious surfaces and furnishings that speak to effortless beauty and tranquility.
The Hammerton Studio Glacier Ring Chandelier underscores the natural theme of the home. Suspended above a stone office desk, this ice-like fixture celebrates organic beauty with thick cast crystal glass and hand polished metalwork. Integrated LED provides innovative ambient & task lighting.
With the assistance of Oatman Architects and landscape architect Daniel Stewart, the talented Xander Noori design team created an elegant modern organic masterpiece.
