Luxury Custom Fixture Brings Grand Foyer Vision to Life
The Hammerton team thrives on turning complex design visions into reality—and our latest luxury custom fixture does exactly that. Created in close collaboration with interior designer Peter Ferwerda and his wife Jodie of Longwood-based Ferwerda Interior Design, this one-of-a-kind 20ft. chandelier was commissioned for the grand foyer of a private residence in Florida.
The project spanned over two years, evolving through multiple design concepts and creative shifts. The turning point came when the clients referenced the iconic Walt Disney World firework chandelier at the Four Seasons Resort and said, “We want something like that”. Drawing from a previous Hammerton design—a custom five-piece rock crystal starburst chandelier—we introduced the idea of large-scale custom glass light fixtures arranged in a dynamic multi-drop configuration. Once the concept clicked, it took off.
The final piece features three massive handblown glass starbursts measuring 36″, 48″, and 56″ in diameter, suspended at varying heights from a custom-engineered oval canopy. Weighing over 400 lbs, the fixture required extensive engineering to remain perfectly level when mounted on an Aladdin lift system. Every detail—from structural reinforcement to cable placement—was meticulously refined to meet both safety and aesthetic standards.
Each starburst is individually handblown and fire polished, delivering radiant texture and a sense of movement. The cascading composition draws the eye upward and brings a sense of scale and energy to the double-height foyer it inhabits.
Throughout the process, Peter would often say, “I’m no lighting designer—you guys are the experts!”. The Ferwerda’s, longtime Hammerton clients, were instrumental in guiding their clients to us. “You’re the custom lighting guys,” they told us—and we were proud to deliver on that reputation.
