Project Spotlight: Desert Luxury

lighting
Tessera Ring Chandelier

In the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona, this ‘Desert Lux New Build’ designed by by Katherine Mueller is a study in modern desert living, where architecture, materiality, and lighting work in quiet harmony. Rather than relying on contrast, the home is defined by continuity. Natural stone, crystal glass, and organic textures create a layered environment that feels both grounded and refined.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, Mueller approached materials as foundational design elements rather than decorative finishes. Agate, onyx, marble, and quartzite establish rhythm and texture throughout the home, while lighting reveals the depth, movement, and character within each surface. Together, these elements create a seamless experience that unfolds from one space to the next.

Dining Room: A Study in Precision

Tessera Linear Chandelier | Tessera Sconces

At the center of the dining room, the Hammerton Tessera Linear Chandelier establishes a strong architectural presence. Its elongated silhouette mirrors the proportions of the dining table below, reinforcing the room’s geometry while guiding the eye through the home’s open floor plan.

Coordinating Tessera Sconces extend the collection’s distinctive cast-glass aesthetic across the space, creating a layered composition of light and texture. Together, the fixtures bring warmth and depth to the surrounding stone surfaces while reinforcing the home’s broader material narrative.

As one of several applications of Tessera throughout the residence, the dining room highlights the collection’s versatility and sculptural character. Light becomes more than illumination here. It becomes an integral part of the architecture itself.

Kitchen: Sculpted Function and Quiet Drama

Custom Tessera Oblong Chandelier

Designed for both gathering and everyday living, the kitchen is anchored by an expansive island wrapped in richly veined quartzite. The stone extends seamlessly across surfaces, creating a sense of movement and visual continuity.

To complement the scale of the space, Mueller specified a custom Tessera Oblong Chandelier. Its elongated form echoes the kitchen’s strong geometry while introducing a softer, sculptural presence overhead.

As light filters through the cast-glass shades, it softens the weight of the surrounding stone, bringing warmth and balance to a space defined by material strength.

Living Room: Framing the Landscape

Tessera Ring Chandelier

In the living room, the design shifts toward continuity between interior and landscape. Exterior stone is brought inside to frame the fireplace, reinforcing the home’s connection to its desert setting. Custom artwork adds subtle regional expression, layering tone and texture without overwhelming the space.

Our Tessera Ring Chandelier introduces a counterbalance to the room’s strong linear architecture. Its circular form softens the geometry of the space while hovering quietly above the seating area, creating definition without visual disruption.

Rather than acting as a focal point, it stabilizes the composition—allowing the fireplace, stonework, and artwork to remain the primary visual anchors.

Sculptural Layers Across Secondary Spaces

Across the secondary spaces, lighting continues to reveal itself in quieter, more nuanced ways. Fixtures from our Tessera, Gem, Axis, and Blossom collections each bring a distinct material voice—structured cast glass, organic blown form, linear restraint, and botanical detail—yet all remain grounded in the same design discipline. The result is a calibrated progression of texture and tone that carries the eye naturally from room to room.

The Desert Lux New Build reflects a fully aligned design vision, where Katherine Mueller’s architectural intent and material sensitivity are echoed in the lighting approach. Together, they create a desert modern interior that feels resolved and intentional—defined not by singular focal points, but by the seamless integration of light, form, and landscape.
